Biopsy Samples
Why send biopsy samples?
The cilia in the nasal passages are the same as in the lungs and are therefore
representative of what's going on in the lungs. The sample will be examined
under the microscope to look at the cilia "in action". This
allows us to determine if the cilia are moving in a coordinated fashion
or if there is abnormal movement. After observation under the microscope,
we send the biopsy out for electronmicroscopy to examine the fine structure
of the cilia.
What do we need you to send?
Nasal biopsies (2-4 mm in diameter); placed in transport media obtained
from our lab (call 215-898-0029 to obtain media). Upon request, we will
send you some transport media in which the biopsy sample is to be placed.
What information do we need to accompany
the biopsy samples?
Please include basic pedigree information (both registered and call (pet)
names, gender, parents, and date of birth) and available health records.
